Having entered service in 2011 as a more fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly replacement aircraft for the aging Boeing 767-200ER, the innovative, twin-engine, wide-body Boeing 787-8, which was Boeing's introductory model in the 787 series, was deemed to be an ideal size to accommodate approximately 250 passengers, as market demand for the Boeing 747 and 767 had be to slow down. With a range of nearly 7,400 nautical miles, the Boeing 787-8 was designed to shift hub-and-spoke travel to new, non-stop, ultra-long-haul, direct point-to-point routes where bigger aircraft could not be accommodated or were financially justifiable.
